Last month, Jenny had the privilege of joining VER International for an elderly outreach event in Siguatepeque—serving alongside local psychology students who are deeply committed to caring for their community. Together they spent the morning teaching about nutrition for healthy aging, focusing on the importance of eating more protein and incorporating more vegetables into daily meals.
When Jenny asked the group about their favorite foods, nearly everyone answered the same: rice and beans. That simple response reflects both the beauty and the challenges of daily life here in Honduras.
The conversation turned practical—gentle ways to stay active, from daily walks to chair exercises, spending time with family, and faithfully attending church. There was plenty of laughter (and a few dramatic reactions!) when she suggested cutting back on tortillas. Fortunately, they forgave her when she encouraged everyone—especially those in their 80s—to enjoy a small piece of cake each day. “You’ve earned it,” she told them, and they agreed wholeheartedly.
It was a morning filled with warmth, humor, and gratitude—a reminder that health and hope flourish best when shared in community.

As part of the outreach, the team also provided basic health evaluations: checking blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI—simple assessments that can reveal important aspects of a person’s well-being. Each participant met with a physician to review results, discuss personal concerns, and receive help navigating follow-up care in town when possible.
Many shared that they rarely see a doctor simply because they cannot afford it—or cannot purchase their medications.
We encouraged each person to remain active, stay connected with family, and keep participating in church life—caring not just for their bodies, but also for their minds and souls.
Moments like these remind us why we are here: to offer compassionate care that points people to the One who brings lasting hope and healing.
Team Retreat: Strengthening the Heart of the Ministry

In early October, we spent two days at a Hospital Yojoa team retreat, joined by a long-term mission hospital administrative advisor and mentor with more than 20 years of global experience. Together we focused on five key activities that build a healthy, functioning team—learning how to strengthen communication, trust, and collaboration in our ministry.
Our directors traveled from the U.S. to be with us, and their presence was such an encouragement. They guided us through honest conversations about leadership structure and helped us take meaningful steps toward greater unity and shared vision. It was a time of growth, laughter, and renewed purpose for everyone.
And of course, the kids might have enjoyed it most of all—our director, Candi, arrived with huge bags of chocolate chips and Star Wars light sabers, ensuring they felt just as loved and included in the retreat!
We left refreshed and grateful for the ways God continues to strengthen this team and prepare us for long-term ministry here in Honduras.
Life in Language School

We recently began classes at the Spanish Institute of Honduras, and our days are now filled with verbs, vocabulary, and a whole lot of laughter. Each of us is in one-on-one lessons for three hours a day, and our teachers speak only Spanish—so by the end of each afternoon, our brains are pleasantly tired.
The kids are in classes, too, and they’ve already grown to love their teachers. We’re amazed at how quickly they’re picking up the language. For the first time, we’re beginning to understand most of the sermon at church each week—a huge encouragement and a glimpse of what’s ahead.
One of our favorite parts of the week is the Bible study and fellowship meal hosted by the language school. It’s a sweet time to connect with other students, share a meal, and watch our children play with other third-culture kids who understand the beauty and challenges of cross-cultural life.
Each new word learned brings us one step closer to serving and loving the Honduran people more fully.
Fueling the Mission: Our 2026 One-Time Need
As we look ahead to 2026, we’re praying for partners who feel called to help meet our annual one-time financial needs. These gifts play a crucial role in sustaining our ability to serve long-term.
One-time contributions help cover essentials such as:
- International health insurance
- Car insurance and registration
- U.S. medical license renewals and certification fees
- Continuing Medical Education (CME)
- Homeschool curriculum
- Ministry travel and field expenses
Would you prayerfully consider giving toward our 2026 goal?
Your partnership—through prayer and financial support—enables us to remain present here in Honduras and continue serving those who need it most.
